But I have a huge beef with them on Fridays during Lent.
( total oxymoron!)
A little background first- I live in Northern NJ. Most of us who live here, not all, are Catholic or Jewish. We have a huge Italian, (surprise, surprise) Irish, and Hispanic population. All (traditionally) of Catholic faith. I am so used to everyone being cognisant of that, sensitive to those of us who try to be observant and not eat meat on Fridays during Lent.
The last two Fridays I have shopped at Trader Joe's, not only did they have THE best samples EVER, of course they were meat- pork no less.
How ironic is that?!
The Catholic AND the Jewish customers couldn't have a taste!
Do you think the management is in touch with their clientele?
I think not.
And as for Kevin and I trying to be observant...
I guess it isn't suppose to be easy!

OK, any manager in Bergen County who offers pork free samples on a Friday in lent is an idiot. I'd say in combination Catholic and Jews make up 80% of the population!
Can you hear me? I have to whisper because nobody should hear this....I used to observe Lent, but now I don't..I married a shhhh, Protestant. (We had ham for dinner)
(there was a time where Sister Bertha had me convinced I was on the fast track to hell--rolling up my uniform skirt and unbuttoning my top uniform shirt button...who knows, maybe she will be right after all---with me eating meat tonight, and all.
You should send them an email. And give them a link to your blog too. Esp at a Whole Foods! They are supposed to have a pretty serious management program- I'm shocked they would be that careless with their customer base.
Todd works in a school district that is primary a jewish community. He gets off most of the Jewish holidays. I think it is great that a school district is being considerated of other religions and other beliefs than the typical christian holidays. (ps. we attend a baptist church)
You would think that Trader Joe's would be more together than that. Hmm... It's a dangerous store for me. I go crazy.
LOL... Trader Joe's is getting a bad rap this week! LOL... Busting me for taking pics when the last time I asked and now this! I too like TJ's but that is a strange they don't pay attention to their customers. Have a golden weekend! xoxo
I so bad we had a Trader Joes here!
How could they temp you like that...it's just not right!
It's white bread and mayo around these parts. I love the ethnic neighborhoods of the east. It says family and good food to me.
That is pretty weird. Most places offer at least "choices". I'm surprised they didn't have samples of their salmon, or pancakes, perogies, or stirfry. They have so many choices other than meat! You should talk to the manager, I bet they would agree.
XOXO
That is ironic (but also funny in an I can't beleive it kinda way)! Thank you for your kind words on my blog by the way! :)

I ran into that last Friday at a store here and it stunned me to say the least. They were making sausage something or another. Now we don't have the biggest Catholic population in this particular area but there is a large Jewish one.
I'm in the middle of a fight with my older son about this as we speak. Please tell me it gets easier.
Reenie- it was surprising!
OHN- you are too funny!
Preppy pink croc- I may do that, I spoke to the manager and when I had to explain to him what Lent was... I knew that I might not be getting anywhere.
Tami- yes, certainly I know everyone is not Catholic- I was just surprised that Trader Joes wasn't more considerate cuz they are so great with everything else!
Kwana- love your blog. I agree, not the Trader joes I imagined!
Joyce- I forgot about your "incident!" Too funny. Have a great weekend :)
Somer- I'm sure there will be one soon. Wild Oats is pretty good?
Frau- Kevin was making me crazy! he put a pork ball in his pocket to save for the next day!!!!
Pink Martini- you are right. Lots of good food. Not from my people though (the irish) LOL
Ronda, I agree! it's not too hard to offer choices.
Europafox- I know it was kinda funny. Thanks, I hope I didn't sound preachy. I meant it sincerely.
PTHMN- The endless debate... I don't know if it gets easier, cuz there will always be something. But tolerance and consideration should be a guarantee for every religion in this country. Boy, do I sound preachy now!!!
Are you having a good Saturday? Can you tell I'm having a glass of wine getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow?
XOXO
