To text or not to text...

Do you think texting, constant texting is annoying?
I do when I see kids texting in church, or if my checker at the grocery store is texting away as I bag the groceries.
I do if I am trying to have a conversation with my children and I see their thumbs moving in the pocket of their hoodie.
I do if I am trying to teach a CCD class and I see my students texting each other.
I do when we are out to dinner as a family and half of that said family is texting at the/under the table.
But...
If I need to get ahold of my children I do like texting them when they are at school- I KNOW they will read it, whereas they can ignore a phone call.
It is a good way to get information to or from someone without getting caught up in a lot of conversation.
It is a real timesaver.
What do you think?

There was a post on A Cup of Jo last week about a girl inadvertently texting her Dad something intended for a girlfriend - yikes!

There is a time and place for everything. Texting during dinner, driving or being taught is rude and also inappropriate. There need to be consequences for this. We as adults need to teach our children by example. Talking is still the best form for communication and safety should be number one!

I don't have children so your post gave me a smile this morning.
It amazes me how the kids can text so fast and without looking! It takes me so long I'm better off calling!!
I do agree with Patricia though there is a time and place. When I'm with friends and family I rarely pick up the phone. I want the person/s I'm with to know they are important to me.

I don't appreciate texting when I am with somebody but I text people when on line at grocery store, etc. to coordinate stuff. I wish more people would text for that purpose. Saves lots of time. And as Lecia states, text with care!! That must have been ugly.

I just figured out how to do it on my ancient phone and it takes me forever, but I do agree that they will answer a text. I also like that I can text them something when I'm thinking about it and they can read it after school, rather than having to remember to call them after school and hope they answer.

J2 has a crackberry and she is addicted. She is good about using it at appropriate times, though.

Is that your daughter? She's beautiful! How old?

My daughter got a Blackberry for her birthday, but she only seems to text when needing to get an important message to someone. I'm sure that will change.

You know what - I don't test and rarely use a mobile - we don't have a signal! plus I know it's practical but I have seen so many instances of other's over usage i've now got an almost luddite aversion! Your daughter is so cute - dare I say she looks a little like Lyndsey Lohan in her younger days?

Hi everyone!
I agree with pve in regard to manners especially. Welcome to any new commenters (is that a word?)
Joyce, I am with you I do NOT ever speak on the phone if I am with others unless there is an emergency. As for the pretty girl in the pic with the lovely green nail polish which only she can make look good, that is my niece. She is sixteen and she does resemble Lindsey Lohan in that pic!
Thanks for all the comments, love hearing from you all.
