What do you think?

I was confiding in my friend Jan that Becky's Aunt and Uncle gave her a bouquet of flowers for her holy confirmation and asked her what she thought.

Did they forgo a customary, meaningful gift,

a. because they are a different religion and do not understand the importance of the event?
(even though this is the 4th confirmation of my children she has attended.)
b. maybe are having financial problems and couldn't afford a gift?
c. didn't give it much thought and grabbed it on the way?
d. trying to make a statement?

Jan thought they may have confused confirmation
( equivalent to a bar mitzvah in meaning)
and a ballet recital where a bouquet of flowers is a customary gift. I thought that was funny, especially since I just spent sooo much time at a recital!

My sister-in-law is not the type I would ever say something to, we do NOT have a good relationship. But I am curious what you all think about her choice of gift/non-gift.

If these are the flowers at least they are pretty.

For bar/bat mitzvah they usually give $$ and something like $18 if my memory serves me correctly something to do with good luck. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I wouldn't want to think to make a statement so I'm going along with what your friend says.

Thanks for the email. Many hugs... xoxo

I was going to let them off the hook with "they probably didn't know" until I read that they had been through this 3 times before.

My guess would probably be financial reasons.

I am trying to remember a million years ago when I was Catholic and confirmed what I got and the only one thing I can remember was a little necklace with a silver mushroom on it..something about good luck, but I can't remember any other gifts.

well I'm sure that bouquet cost them $25.00- but it was the exact same gift J's GRANDPARENTS gave J for her communion. Which made me wonder- wtf? I think a mixture of cluelessness and making a statement who knows

I think they are very beautiful flowers and would look great dried or freeze dried.

It's the thought that counts and its better than nothing right? :)

Oh, for the record the flowers pictured are not THe flowers given.

Joyce- I hope that is correct.

OHn- I HOPE that is the reason, because the others wouldn't be good.

Mrs. K. -Yeah grandparents...hmmm.

Somer- I know what you are saying, but this aunt and uncle are 40 and have been to many, many functions and I don't think there was much "thought" given to this and that is what bothers me. I think it is because I know if I were to do the same thing I would be in BIG trouble with my husband's family. That is why I think they may be having financial problems, unless she is trying to make some type of statement...

I vote to let it go. There are so many worse problems and flowers are sweet. It's the thought that counts..... xoxo
