I am just a beginner, but already find it so engrossing and enjoyable. I love the social aspects as well as the brain work involved.
It reminds me of what yoga and paddle do for me. When I am involved with bridge I am so focused, none of the daily minutia of my life creeps in. I leave so relaxed as my brain was involved-yet was given a rest from family, work... life!
Do you play? Any advice?

I do not play bridge, but when Joan has her group over for bridge that is a great excuse for me to test out desserts on them. Anyway, the only piece of advice I have gleaned from listening to Joan speak about her bridge experiences is that there are some players who do NOT want to chit chat during play, they are serious players, so tune in on the vibe of the group. I think Joan is the serious player and her "bridgies" love to play but also to visit during play.
I've been thinking about trying to learn. Let me know how it goes!
never played....
did you get your iPhone?!
What are you eighty! Just kidding!
Mom loves it but claims to be still learning after all these years. Maybe someday when I'm older I will learn!!
Ina- good advice. I think I can't chit chat during play because it is too hard to keep track of the cards!
Pearl, I will! In fact I think four of us are going to take more intensive lessons this summer...
Kim- it is decided, I am getting the iPhone. Now I have to decide which one.... Old or new?
frau- You would like it! I think you are old enough :)
I have never played it, but wants to. I heard it is hard to learn? Is it? Enjoy! xoox
Wow...good for you! I have memories of my parents who had "bridge" nights...and still play with only "certain" friends! They LOVE it... think it's wonderful.... "trying new things"!
My Mom plays all of the time. I am learning.
My mom tried to teach me last summer and it was a disaster! I bought Boyle's Rules of the Game to prepare myself for our next attempt. I wish my Nana was still around to teach me...
It's so funny you wrote about this, b/c I'm dying to learn how to play. The only folks I know that play are quite elderly and are still sharp as tacks. I love these "mind exercises" !!
joyce, it isn't hard if you accept that it will take YEARS to learn.
Susan- i see Marc taking it up eventually...
Her prep, Do you take lessons?
Allie, There may be schools or clubs in your area where you can take lessons and find other beginners :)
Torch- I agree, I need the sharp as tack thing!
