I am a little sad.
It's because of New Orleans.
I need to let you know that I have been having a love affair with that crazy city for about five years now.
Probably since My son Ryan began college at Loyola.
There are so many reasons why I love to visit.
The food.
The people.
The Music.
The art.
The architecture.
The gardens.
The shopping
The partying.
The holidays celebrated like no other place I have ever been.
Did I mention... the food?
Well, Ryan is leaving in May.
And, this is the first year that we haven't visited.
Way too busy.
Our last visit was last year, the first week of May... for what was Ryan's graduation.
( another post about the Jesuit's loving and forgiving, some would say... enabling nature.)
A fabulous, amazing graduation weekend culminated at The Columns Hotel. We held a cocktail reception/dinner for our boys.
It was so special.
The Columns Hotel is, to me, the epitome of the Garden District.
It was the perfect place to get that true New Orlean's flavor.
I was daydreaming about it today...
I love this illustration. And the image below? Picture a bunch of preppy college boys with their nantucket reds and madras shorts with jackets, of course, and pretty girls in sundresses all over that front porch.

I've only been to NO once for a conference, but I can see how you would love it! The Hotel illustration is amazing! And I'm sure the hotel is too!
I have never been, but would love to. My son installs alarm systems, and went 2 years ago to help do work for a week. He really enjoyed getting something back, from helping people. I bet your getting excited about your trip. I am for you! I know what it's like getting together with family.
Love your header, just bought my son a polo at J.Crew in that exact stripe color. I love it!
XOXO
Thanks Jackie! Love your blog :)
Ronda, I bet he had fun down there and how cool that he helped out.
Never been it's on my list for the some day trip. Love the preppy rain boot.
I didn't know you had one at Layola NO. S1's best friend is headed there in the fall. My boys go to a Jesuit High School and I thought maybe one might be interested in visiting but it wasn't on the list. They give great scholarships too. Oh, well.
Loved this post. Congrats on another college grad though. Good job, mom. I've never been to NO or to the south, come to think of it. Loved reading you remembering good times. :)
