Groceries and other myths

When there were seven of us living under one roof, I was always grocery shopping.
The more I bought, the more they ate.
When my sons hit their growth spurt, my grocery bill doubled. I would buy lunch meat meant to last the week and they would come home and eat it as a snack. I was buying two to three gallons of milk a week.
So, after awhile I would shop four times a week so that the groceries would last longer.
Huh?
Makes no sense,
right?
Intellectually I know this, emotionally I find myself plotting my grocery buying strategies as I get ready for two of the "food eaters" to move back home.

I know that spending my time and $$ on gas to shop four times a week so that it appears that the cupboards are full makes no sense. I should just do a big shop and that's the end of it...

It is truly... the myth of sisyphus.
I roll the boulder up and it rolls back down.
A grocery shopping exercise of futility.

It's a law of nature I think! If it's there they eat it, if it's not they take your money and go to the drive through either way you pay!

I feel your pain. And even though the freezer and fridge are full of stuff to eat, J3 is such a pain in the butt that unless you MAKE it for him, he'll just go to McDonald's. However, his recent run in with trouble at the Braves game made DOTR mad enough to cut off the $$$$, so he's out looking for a job. At this point, if he has his own money, he can eat at McDonald's six times a day for all I care.

I say why waste time and money. Go out right now and buy a new frig. and or freezer, then hit Sam's or Costco.

I go to Costco once a month and grocery shop in between. No matter how much we have, the boys always complain there is NOTHING TO EAT. Argh!

Love the pic! I hate grocery shopping. Always have. It's because I do not do meal planning. I blame my mother. :) I remember in one of your posts you said you cook every night. I have always wanted to know how you do this. Maybe you could plan the week for me and post it. Not kidding! :)

LOL... I agree with Ina Costco. Plus shop on the weekend and bring the family along to sample all of the food so you don't have to cook! xoxox

My aunt had the same problem in her big family. So she bought a lock for the big garage freezer. And only she had the key. So she would only do one big grocery trip but lock away items or baked good or whatever until she was ready to use them.

I feel your burden. I have teen twin sons and a girl and there never seemed to be enough, that was until, I made it a point to realize that they could survive on a weekly meal plan. I plan a weekly menu and post it.
They know that when it is gone, that it is gone. A good lesson to learn rather than always thinking that it magically appears. Try it! My budget thanks me.
