Thinking about getting a dog...

Here I am with my first dog, Nicky.
We have been animal free for a few years now. That, after thirteen years of two dogs, a cat, lizards and countless fish.

I cannot lie. It has been nice not having to run home from where ever I am, midday, to walk or feed the animals. We no longer spend a small fortune to board the dogs when we are on vacation...

However, I do miss having a dog. Our last two dogs were adopted. I do believe in rescue animals, but this time I want to start with a puppy, never really had one. ( as an adult)
I know I have written about this before, but we had construction, etc.
Now, I feel as though we are about ready. I want to get a breed that goes with our lifestyle now and in a few years when we are childless.

Any suggestions?

Sophie is a non Shedding dog and doesn't know how to bark.....not sure if her breed is non barking, she is a Wire Fox Terrier....little dogs equals little poops!

I'm with Frau- I love my terriers! Maybe because most have attitude and can be challenging. Hmmm... our Mr. Bojangles wasn't supposed to shed being part airedale- WRONG the little furball sheds. Patty, sometimes you can get a puppy through rescue. My friend just got 2 little ones about 8 weeks old. Also, keep mind with a puppy comes boredom and teething. The stories I can get about Bo and he was already 10 months. Smile...

I know I'm a bit early and you know how much I love a good party so start celebrating... Happy Birthday Patty!! I don't get online too much over the weekend and didn't want to let your bday slip away without sending you warm wishes!! Hugs... xo

several things to consider: do you want a dog you can carry. do you want a dog that can keep up with your physical activity, that has endurance to walk or run. do you want a dog that is laid back or active. long or short hair. one that's house trained or one that you have to take outside every two hours. one that you have to have groomed, or one that doesn't need grooming. one that you have to spend a lot of time training, or not....
puppies are fun and cute and expensive...there are so many great dogs that come ready to go, that need a home and someone to love them, a little exercise, food and a soft bed....
whatever you chose, you can be guaranteed unconditional love and whole lotta fun!
keep us posted as to what you're thinking...
(i was just recalling your story about the dalmation...that was you, right?)

Yes, a puppy!!!! I'm a BIG dog lover - fall for hairy golden retrievers that break my vacuums... and when something happens to my "love" Reilly, I'll probably fall for another one! My parents had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, great size - wonderful breed too. People seem to love the new designer hybrid dogs...but not loving poodles, not so sure I'd fall for one! Reilly is at my feet now, snoring and oh, so lovable!
I know a few Golden breeders!!!
